District Introduces First-Ever Mascot

The Fightin' PlanetEarlier this week, Mars Area School District introduced the District’s first ever Fightin’ Planet mascot.

Last fall, Mars Cheer Boosters approached Mars Area School Board with the idea of creating a District mascot to enhance school spirit. With the Board’s go-ahead, the boosters set forth on the long-term project to design a mascot costume.

The District’s Fightin’ Planet mascot is so unique that the costume had to be designed from scratch, says Courtenay Carrel of Mars Cheer Boosters, noting that the mascot came to fruition thanks to fundraising efforts as well as corporate donations.

“We are so happy to have the mascot for this school year and many to come,” says Carrel. “We hope the mascot helps bring some more spirit to Mars!”

The Fightin’ Planet will be a mainstay at all home football and will be making an appearance at Mars Applefest (Oct. 5) and the Homecoming Parade (Oct. 11). The mascot will also be in attendance at other key school events, such as pep rallies and senior nights.

In the near future The boosters hope to hold a “Name the Mascot” contest to give the Fightin’ Planet character a name. For more information, call (724) 625-1518.
