A group of local students is working together to make a difference in their community.

The “Girls Doing Good” group, created and led by Mars Area sophomore Chloe Milliron, recently collected more than 320 items to support Butler County Humane Society, which relies on donations to provide its animals with food, shelter and veterinary care.

“I created Girls Doing Good to bring together a group of friends with the common interest of helping others and making a positive impact on our community,” says Milliron. “Our group believes that taking time to help others is the right thing to do. We enjoy positive life experiences while actively assisting those in need.”

Members of the group include Milliron, along with Mars Area sophomores Sarah Anderson, Stephanie Kiefer, Taylor Sinicki; ninth-graders Reagan Gales and Addison Keys; eighth-grader Taylor Tumulty; and sixth-grader Sarah Maloney. Other members are Meredith Bille, Paige Hohman, Kelsey Hurlbert and Emily McAdoo.

In June 2018, “Girls Doing Good” joined in the Walk For Children’s (Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation), raising more than $460 for the cause. The third annual event raised more than $880,000 for kids in need at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Girls Doing Good will participate in a Salvation Army Kettle Collection from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, and Friday, Nov. 30, at Walmart (Gibsonia). Proceeds will benefit North Hills Community Outreach, which helps local families in financial need.
